The period of COVID, and the years following, have proved challenging times for the hall.
Several key and valuable volunteers have resigned for numerous reasons around work pressures, health, finding new pursuits and dropping old ones, and legislative changes and a financial landscape which have made our contributions as volunteers feel unvalued and actually opposed. We understand and wish them well and thank them for their efforts. The hall would not be here today without the help they've given.
However, a key and dedicated core have persevered to keep the hall in community hands.
Back in June 2019, one of our generous volunteers who is a builder rebuilt the roof over the toilets off the meeting room. We'd planned to repaint and one of our volunteers lead the charge with the help of a couple of other, and has repaired and repainted the interior of these toilets.
The interior had been badly effected by the roof leak which had been fixed in June 2019. We had not immediately painted to allow walls to dry out and it was a task set for the following summer, which saw COVID lockdowns in Melbourne which lasted two years into 2021.
In July 2026 - Carl and Wayne, assisted by others, filled holes and painted these toilets. After long nights and weekends slipped in between work an family - the project was completed. Well done, especially to Carl who led the charge and seemed to do most of the work.
