Melbourne's Mamas and Papas Flowerchildren Review

There is not too many perks as the Hall Manager, but while emptying bins and cleaning up over the last several weeks I have had the big treat of listening to Casey Donovan (Mama Cass), Laura Fitzpatrick (Mama Michelle), Matt Hetherington (Papa John), and Dan Humphris (Papa Denny) and other cast rehearsing for the Comedy Theatre’s Flower Children Show, the story of the Mamas and Papas.

Many might not recognize the name of the band called the Mamas and Papas, but you certainly know the music; songs like California Dreaming, Monday Monday, and Dancing in the Street. Mama Cas’s 1968 cover of Dream a Little Dream of Me was one of the highest rating versions in the charts and Casey Donovan does it the justice it deserves, as do all the cast to the famous songs of the 1960’s in the show.

The real perk came with a special ticket to Opening Night on Wednesday this week and my partner and myself though the show was fantastic! Audience reaction was also very positive as are the well deserved glowing reviews from publications like The Australian. It already has over 1,000 likes on Facebook !

The show is at the Comedy Theater until 16^th of June 2013 and is worth going to and reliving memories of the 60’s or experiencing some musical history you missed.
